| Actually, I am a life-long "dog person". Somehow, mysteriously, I now own cats. I have learned that cats are great, too, although their personalities are somewhat different than dogs. Once you learn to take your pets as the "people" they are, it's fun! | |
| This is Geisha, my first cat. I got Geisha at about the time I became separated
from my now former husband. She was about four years old then, and had been owned first
by a college girl with too many cats to keep, and then by my friend and assistant, Donna, who
ultimately decided she also had too many cats. Donna coaxed me into giving "cat ownership" a
try, and look what happened! The cats own me! Geisha is a seal-point Tonkinese, a breed that combines the Siamese coloring, attitude, and vocalizations with the Burmese body type. She is extremely fond of enclosed places like baskets and boxes, she likes to climb and perch, and she will occasionally deign to sit on my lap, if all conditions suit her just right. Geisha likes to play "fetch", chasing paper wads or other toys and bringing them back to be thrown again. (Until Geisha, I never knew cats did that!) Geisha also likes to play "basketball" -- I toss a toy into the air, and she leaps up to try to lob it... somewhere! | ![]() |

This is Jasmine, aka "Jazzi".
Jazzi came into my life when I decided that Geisha needed a companion while I was away from the
house at work and class. Formerly named "Gail", Jazzi is a rescue cat from a wonderful
organization called "Kitty Angels". She was found eating from a dumpster, captured, and eventually
adopted by me. Jazzi and I had a rough start -- she was obviously traumatized by her former
life, and was (and still is) extremely fearful. When she moved in, she had a scarey little cough
which was either asthsma or a bronchial infection. So for the first week, when she was just trying to
figure out exactly how life-threatening I was, I had to chase her down and catch her to force
antibiotics down her unwilling throat morning and evening. It was hell for both of us. Now Jazzi is somewhat more comfortable, and will even hop on the sofa with me late at night if I don't move and frighten her. She doesn't seem to understand how to play, though, so we are working on that. |
Both of my cats, as is pretty typical, enjoy sleeping (extra points for sunny windowsills), eating (going for the fresh cooked meat every time), being brushed (ah, ecstacy!) and generally being adored (as is their due!)
